Finland is the 2nd country in Europe to award contracts for nationwide critical broadband service. ESN in UK was the first. Worldwide contracts have also been awarded FirstNet in USA, SafeNet in South-Korea and in the Persin Gulf countries. With this announcement Finland and Erillisverkot follow on the roadmap and timeline outlined in the award winning “5 Steps to critical broadband” strategy. An essential part is to ensure seamless continuity for current Virve TETRA users as they gradually migrate to utilise more critical broadband services.
In the next phase 3GPP specified Mission Critical Services (MCX) such as Mission Critical Push-to-talk (MCPTT), Mission Critical Data (MCData) and Mission Critical Video (MCVideo) will be procured. Related RFI was concluded on 17th of January 2020 with first consolidated results prior to RFQ process are expected to be published in the next two months.
